Abstract

Free and open source software communities frequently adopt codes of conduct to guide community social practices. Codes of conduct can talk about unacceptable behavior, encourage pro-social behavior, clarify enforcement procedures, and otherwise provide formal structures for interaction. Codes of conduct also express to people inside and outside of the community what the community values. In this session, we'll explore different approaches communities have taken with their codes of conduct, what those choices mean, and what values are conveyed.
